Ruby Garnett Acord Whitt, 91, of Pineville, passed away Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at Appalachian Regional Hospital, Beckley following a long illness.
Born September 11, 1918 at Jesse, WV, she was the daughter of the late Dennie C. and Dollie Cook Acord.
Ruby was a member of the Rock Castle Baptist Church. She was a member of the Rock Castle Baptist Church ABW group. Mrs. Whitt was a beautician for 50 years and attended Little French Beauty School. She enjoyed crocheting and quilting.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Loyd O. Whitt; grandson, Luke Clay and a great-great-grandson, Zachary Clay. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Lacy Acord and Dennie Acord, Jr.; four sisters, Gladys Phillips, Pauline Kessler, Macie Roles and Ramona Blankenship ,an infant sister, Josephine and two infant brothers.
Survivors include her son, Rex Stewart and his wife, Cassie of Pineville
A daughter, Marcella Clay and her husband, Jerome of Pineville
Stepson, Ballard Whitt and his wife, Sharon of Beckley
Stepdaughters, Sally Whitt of Beckley
Mavis Adams of Beckley
Polly Burke of Hillsborough, NC
A brother, David “Dickie”Acord and his wife, Pat, of Charleston
Special brother-in-law, Eddie Whitt and his wife, Reba, of Hico
She is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren.
